Offers - Cordova / Ionic to Capacitor migration

From €9,500 excl. VAT · 3 to 6 weeks · Fixed price

Your Cordova or Ionic hybrid app has been in production for years, but every iOS or Android update has become a project of its own: plugins that no longer compile, Appflow builds with an end date, stricter store requirements. We migrate your app to Capacitor while keeping your web code, step by step, and move you off Appflow before the deadline.

Why migrate now

  • •Ionic stopped selling its commercial products in February 2025. Existing Appflow customers keep access until December 31, 2027, and no longer
  • •The stores raise their requirements every year: since April 28, 2026, Apple requires Xcode 26 and the iOS 26 SDK; since August 31, 2026, Google Play requires new apps and updates to target Android 16 (API 36)
  • •Many third-party Cordova plugins are no longer maintained and eventually break with new iOS and Android versions
  • •Ionic Framework and Capacitor remain open source and free: Capacitor has an official migration guide from Cordova

This is for you if…

  • •You have a Cordova or Ionic app (Angular, Vue or React) in production
  • •Your builds or live updates go through Ionic Appflow
  • •A store update was blocked by an outdated plugin or SDK
  • •You want to modernize the app without rewriting it in React Native or native code
  • •Your team knows the web but not Xcode or Gradle

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Plugin and pipeline audit

We inventory your Cordova plugins, your Ionic dependencies and how you use Appflow (builds, live updates, Enterprise plugins). Each plugin is classified: keep, replace with a Capacitor equivalent, or rewrite.

  2. Step 2

    Adding Capacitor alongside Cordova

Capacitor is installed in your existing project and can coexist with the Cordova plugins that are still compatible. Same bundle ID, same web code: your users simply update the app.

  3. Step 3

    Plugin replacement and new pipeline

We replace abandoned or incompatible plugins, migrate the config.xml settings, and set up your builds and live updates outside Appflow.

  4. Step 4

    Testing, submission and handover

Testing on iOS and Android devices, submission to the App Store and Google Play with the required SDKs, then documentation so your team can take over.

Included in the base price (€9,500 excl. VAT)

  • •Full audit of your Cordova plugins and dependencies, with a replacement plan approved before any work starts
  • •Migration of your app to Capacitor on iOS and Android, keeping your web code, your bundle ID and your users' local data
  • •Replacement of standard plugins (camera, files, notifications, splash screen, status bar, keyboard…) with their Capacitor equivalents
  • •SDK compliance with App Store and Google Play requirements, and submission of the new version
  • •15 days of support after delivery
  • •Documentation so you can build and release future versions on your own

What a Capacitor migration does not do: let's be honest

Capacitor supports most Cordova plugins, but not all of them, and a migration is not a magic wand. Here is what you should know before you start:

  • •Some Cordova plugins are incompatible with Capacitor or rely on install hooks and variables that Capacitor does not support: they have to be replaced or rewritten
  • •A Capacitor equivalent does not always behave exactly like the original plugin: every difference is identified during the audit and approved with you
  • •The migration does not fix the performance of a heavy web interface. If your app needs intensive native animations, we will tell you, and React Native may be a better option
  • •Ionic Enterprise plugins (Identity Vault, Auth Connect…) do not always have a ready-made replacement: this is priced separately, after reviewing how you use them

Finally, approving the new version is up to Apple and Google: no one can guarantee publication 100%. We prepare the app to follow their rules and we handle their feedback; if a rejection requires extra work, we explain why and offer you a priced solution.

Capacitor expertise in production

GUIGUI Tech builds and maintains Capacitor apps in production, such as the Boardigo mobile app (React + Capacitor, with eIDAS-compliant e-signature). No mobile app yet and starting from a website? See our website → mobile app with Capacitor offer instead.

What we need to get started

  • •Access to your app’s code repository (NDA signed beforehand if needed)
  • •The list of your environments and how you use Appflow, if applicable
  • •Access to your App Store Connect and Google Play Console accounts
  • •A contact person to approve plugin replacement choices

Not sure how many plugins are a problem?

That is the most common case. For apps with many plugins or in-house native code, we offer a feasibility audit for €800 excl. VAT / 2 days, paid on order: we analyze your project and give you a firm quote. The audit is deducted from the final price if you confirm within 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Cordova or Ionic to Capacitor migration cost?
Migrating a Cordova or Ionic app to Capacitor with GUIGUI Tech costs from €9,500 excl. VAT at a fixed price, over 3 to 6 weeks. This price includes the plugin audit, the iOS and Android migration, replacing standard plugins and submission to the App Store and Google Play. Moving off Appflow (builds from €1,500 excl. VAT, live updates from €1,000 excl. VAT) and rewriting in-house plugins (€1,500 to €4,500 excl. VAT per plugin) are priced as modules.
How long does a migration from Cordova to Capacitor take?
A Cordova or Ionic to Capacitor migration by GUIGUI Tech usually takes 3 to 6 weeks. The duration depends mainly on the number of Cordova plugins to replace or rewrite and on whether you are moving off Ionic Appflow. The schedule is set before work begins.
Do I need to rewrite my app to move from Cordova to Capacitor?
No, moving from Cordova to Capacitor does not require rewriting the app: the web code (Angular, Vue or React) is kept. Capacitor can even coexist with Cordova plugins that are still compatible, which allows GUIGUI Tech to migrate incrementally. Only incompatible or abandoned plugins are replaced or rewritten.
Is Ionic Appflow shutting down?
Yes. In February 2025, Ionic stopped selling its commercial products, Appflow included, and existing customers keep access to Appflow until December 31, 2027. GUIGUI Tech handles the move off Appflow in its Capacitor migration offer: native builds from €1,500 excl. VAT and live updates from €1,000 excl. VAT, on top of the base fixed price from €9,500 excl. VAT.
What can replace Ionic Appflow for builds and live updates?
To replace Ionic Appflow, you can use Capawesome Cloud or a CI such as GitHub Actions or Codemagic for native builds, and Capgo or Capawesome Cloud for live updates. GUIGUI Tech chooses the right solution with you and sets it up: €1,500 excl. VAT for builds and store publishing, €1,000 excl. VAT for migrating live updates.
Do Cordova plugins work with Capacitor?
Most Cordova plugins work with Capacitor, but not all of them. Some are incompatible, others rely on hooks or install variables that Capacitor does not support, and many have an official Capacitor equivalent. The audit included in GUIGUI Tech’s migration offer (from €9,500 excl. VAT) classifies each plugin: keep, replace or rewrite.
Is Cordova still maintained in 2026?
Yes, Apache Cordova still releases versions in 2026, but many third-party Cordova plugins are no longer maintained and break with new versions of iOS and Android. This is often what blocks store updates. GUIGUI Tech migrates these apps to Capacitor, at a fixed price from €9,500 excl. VAT, to get back to an up-to-date plugin ecosystem.
Does my Cordova app need to be updated for the 2026 App Store and Google Play requirements?
Yes, if you still publish updates. Since April 28, 2026, Apple requires builds made with Xcode 26 and the iOS 26 SDK. Since August 31, 2026, Google Play requires new apps and updates to target Android 16 (API 36). GUIGUI Tech’s Capacitor migration includes this compliance work and the submission of the new version.
Do users lose their data when migrating to Capacitor?
No, if the migration is configured properly. GUIGUI Tech keeps the same bundle ID and configures Capacitor to retain access to the Cordova app’s local data (LocalStorage, etc.). Users simply update the app from the App Store or Google Play, without reinstalling; retention of local data and sessions is checked during the audit.
How does payment work for a Cordova to Capacitor migration?
A Cordova or Ionic to Capacitor migration by GUIGUI Tech is paid in two installments: 30% upfront, 70% on delivery. Invoices are issued by our company, a French SAS.
